all tying to the theme of home.

2023

Selections from the original score from BUG (Dir. Caleb Lemon), finalist for the 2023 Louisiana Film Prize

IT’S FINE

(ft. Sam Hao, violin, and Adam Chlebek, piano)

This suite is not only a tribute to my friend and violinist Sam Hao, but it also serves as a sentimental snapshot of my emotional being during my gap year after graduating Oberlin – a time of introspection, self-doubt, and find oneself. Even the title serves as a double-meaning: Sam’s favorite sarcastic phrase, but to me, a personal willingness to keep going.

“IT’S FINE” consists three continuous movements:

i. you game? (overture)
ii. you there? (interlude)
iii. thank you (passacaglia)

Recorded live in Kulas Recital Hall at Oberlin Conservatory on April 15, 2023.
